Rajat started playing the piano at the age of 5 but was mostly self taught until he began consistent private lessons in middle school. While he was recognized by school awards throughout his childhood, his turning point came when he won the 1st prize and audience favorite awards at the con brio national piano competition in India at the age of 17 being the youngest competitor.
His composition earned 3rd place in a world-wide competition and he performed at the prestigious Ehrbar hall in Vienna. He was granted admission into prestigious music institutes including Berklee college of music and Bard conservatory. He also earned his LTCL piano diploma with distinction. Most recently, he was awarded gold medals in the composition category of the North American Virtuoso International Music Competition with an improvised sonata for solo piano.
He currently studies at the UBC school of music under Dr Patricia Hoy for piano and Dr Stephen Chatman for composition. He has performed concerts at UBC as well as a variety of old age and children’s homes. A unique aspect of his musical identity is his ability to improvise in the tradition of western classical music with an intricacy that matches pre written compositions.
We at Dio Piano School are grateful to have Rajat Chowdhary as part of our Piano Teachers in West Vancouver location.
